CONTROL UNIT FOR CONTINUOUSLY VARIABLE TRANSMISSION

PURPOSE:To prevent malfunction of an engine such as an overrun and stalling, by providing a control unit for a continuously variable transmission with malfunction deciding means which shifts a lockup changeover valve to the side where a lockup unit is released in the event a signal detected by speed changing motion detecting means is kept unchanged for a predetermined period of time or longer. CONSTITUTION:A control unit for a continuously variable transmission is provided with speed changing motion detecting means for detecting a signal corresponding to the motion of a speed changing actuator and malfunction deciding means for outputting a signal in the event that the signal detected by the speed changing motion detecting means is kept unchanged for a predetermined period of time or longer to shift a lockup changeover valve to the side where a lockup unit is released, whereby the lockup unit is assured to be released whenever malfunction occurs in the speed changing actuator. Malfunction of the engine as an overrun and stalling can thus be prevented.
