PURPOSE:To produce the titled substance in high catalytic activity, without corroding the apparatus, by reacting an olefin with oxygen in the presence of water using a catalyst composed mainly of rhodium and manganese and containing the IIIA-group element as the third component. CONSTITUTION:The titled compound is produced by reacting an olefin with oxygen or an oxygen-containing gas at 50-300 deg.C, preferably 100-250 deg.C under 0-50kg/cm<2>G, preferably 0-10kg/cm<2>G pressure, in the presence of water, using a catalyst obtained by supporting (A) rhodium, (B) manganese, and (C) one or more elements selected from the IIIA-group elements (excluding actinide elements) on a carrier, and preferably adding (D) a zinc compound as the fourth component to the catalyst. The amounts of the components A, B and C are preferably 0.2-5pts.wt., 0.5-30pts.wt. and 0.1-30pts.wt. per 100pts.wt. of the carrier. |
