PURPOSE:To make the recording wavelength and recording format on a recording medium constant by changing the number of revolutions of a rotary drum and the feeding speed of the recording medium where a recording/reproducing head is fixed in proportion to a transmission rate. CONSTITUTION:The control of a number of revolutions control circuit 300 and a feeding speed control circuit 310 discriminates the transmission rate by a clock frequency of a reference signal selecting circuit 290 at recording and discriminates the transmission rate by a signal of a control signal discriminating circuit 360 at switching/reproduction to change over, thereby changing the number of revolutions of the rotary drum and the feeding speed of the recording medium. Then the shortest wavelength on the recording medium is made constant at all times by changing the number of revolutions of the rotary drum and the feeding speed of the recording medium in proportion to the transmission rate of a recording signal, so that the waveform equalizing characteristic are made identical as a result. Thus, in recording a PCM digital signal different in the number of quantizing bits and sampling frequencies, the drum number of revolutions and the feeding speed of the recording medium are changed in response to the transmission rate independently of the value to make the recording wavelength constant and the recording format is made constant. |
