This composition intended for treating and protecting natural or sensitised hair against all photochemical degradation contains at least one keratin derivative which is chemically modified, where appropriate after hydrolysis, of molecular weight between 500 and 50,000 and corresponding to the general formula: <IMAGE> Y = residue of a UV-absorbing molecule; P1, P2 = unmodified residues of the derivative; M<(+)> + H<(+)>, metal cation, N<(+))<R2)4; Q = residue of the amino acids of keratin; T = O, NH, S; Z = SO3<(-)>M<(+)>, residue obtained by N- or S-alkylation; q between 1 and 5.
