In the process, a cavity is produced in a mould medium as a part of a mould space for the casting and this mould space is filled with molten metal, a zone influenced by the casting temperature arising in the mould medium around the casting; it is to be made possible that, in particular for the mass production of castings, the use of green sand can be dispensed with and, with a small consumption of mould medium, a simply producible and inexpensive casting mould of sufficient gas permeability results, which moreover ensures a high casting quality with small adverse environmental effects. For this purpose, a chemically bound mould material is used as the mould medium and, after removal of the first casting, that portion of the moulding material is removed which lies in the zone influenced by the casting temperature, after which this zone is filled with mould material to re-produce the mould space before the next casting process.
