In pumps which are used for delivering material containing sand and gravel, the pump housing is frequently made of chilled castings, in order to counteract the erosion or damage to the housing which usually occurs. Such erosion can however be neither prevented nor repaired to reasonable satisfaction. Therefore, according to the present invention, the zones of greatest wear loading are determined for different types of pump, and cut-outs (21) are provided, in a region correspondingly widely covering these zones, on the inner wall (103) of the corresponding pump housing (101); matching filling pieces (22,etc.) are then interchangeably and releasably fastened in these cut-outs (Fig.3). These filling pieces (22) preferably consist of hard, wear-resistant material. With different pump types, the zones of greatest wear loading are usually determined at different places; for identical pump types, however, the zones of greatest wear loading usually appear in the same zones, so that a multiple exchange of the filling pieces (22) is also easily possible and thus the lifetime of the housing (101) can be substantially extended. The associated production process shows the procedure for the production or repair of such pumps. <IMAGE>
