In an apparatus for the electrodynamic stirring of the liquid pool of a metal slab passing through a metallic support roller frame consisting of upper and lower rollers, outside the casting mould, in which an electrical current is conducted through the slab in the running direction of the slab in one support roller frame part, the object is that no extensive modifications, mountings and protective measures have to be undertaken for using the apparatus in a continuous casting plant; moreover, the operation must not impede the spray cooling of the slab. This is achieved in that in the support roller frame part, two roller pairs - one pair consisting of a lower roller and the opposing upper roller (1,2;7,8) - are present, in which the lower roller and the upper roller are provided with at least one field coil (1a,1b;2a,2b (Fig.2 and 5)) (13;14(Fig.7))placed concentrically to the rotation axis and closely below the outer roller casing, and are supplied with direct current via current couplings, either the current directions or the winding sense of the field coils being selected such that a magnetic field arises in the slab between each roller pair which is directed transversely to the running direction of the slab and has either only one direction (Fig.5), or adjacent opposed directions (Fig.7), with the condition that the direction of the magnetic field between the one roller pair is opposed to the direction of the magnetic field between the...
