The frequent changeover to foreign languages with other characters or other types of lettering with special formulae requires easy exchangeability of the daisywheel (1) in printing mechanisms in typewriters or similar office machines. In a known printing mechanism, when the daisywheel (1) is inserted it is fitted onto the free end of a drive shaft (19), it being possible for the daisywheel (1) to be coupled to the wheel receiver (17) via a carrier pin (29). The engagement of said carrier pin (29) in an engagement opening (33) of the daisywheel (1) takes place only in their position of mutual alignment, which is achieved by a search run of the wheel receiver (17). According to the invention, this engagement is simplified in that the daisywheel (1) is locked by a locking lever (43) during the search run movement. After engagement of the carrier pin (29) in the engagement opening (33) of the daisywheel (1), the locking lever (43), mounted in the frame, is returned to its position of non-engagement by the daisywheel (1) which is then driven with positive fit. The coupling of the daisywheel (1) with the wheel receiver (17) takes place within one revolution of said wheel receiver (17). <IMAGE>
