PURPOSE:To ensure that the number of printing digit places in one line can be selectively set to be 136 or 132 in a printer, by obtaining a printing width selecting signal from a signal from a host device and a signal from a member provided at a position for externally operating the printer or in the interior of the printer. CONSTITUTION:A printing operation controlling part 3 stores a starting position and a finishing position of printing, and thereby controls the number of printing digit places in one line. The control of the printing-starting position and the printing-finishing position in the part 3 is conducted in two kinds, in one of which 136 digit places are set in one line, and in the other, 132 digit places are set by adding each two digit place amount of space on the front side and the rear side of the line based on 136 digit places. The control of the number of digit places in one line by the part 3 is controlled by a CPU2 according to the printing width selecting signal 12. By this arrangement, the number of printing digit places in one line can be selectively set to be 136 or 132 by operating a printing width changeover switch 11. Accordingly, similar printing formats can be obtained without any burden on the host device. |
