A probe (4) protrudes about 2mm (A) through an aperture (3) in the wall (1) of the burner (2). Alternating current from a source (6) is fed via the gap between the probe and wall to an a.c. detector (8). The amount of carbon dioxide in the burner alters the shape of the flame and causes differences in the conductivity of the gap between the probe and wall. The changes in current drawn from the source (6) are detected and fed (10,11) to an air inlet control device. |
