The method is intended for enclosing a chimney flue, cable duct or service duct etc. by insulating panels (1,4) consisting of fire-resistant (retardant) and/or fire-safe material. The panels are connected to form an enclosing duct and their adjoining edges are bevelled (5). - At the corners so formed, the panels are secured together by e.g. (metal cladding plates (8,11) with U-shaped flanges extending inwardly into corner recesses (6,7). Clamp strips (12) inwardly bent U-section edges engage the flanges.
