The tubular underground installation is esp. for use in regions which are prone to subsidence. The installation comprises an envelope positioned about the e.g. reinforced components (3) of the e.g. tunnel which absorbs the forces of the surrounding earth. The envelope consists of a layer of approximately constant thickness which lies between the external surface of the tunnel and the surrounding earth (9). - The layer is made up of a material which undergoes plastic deformation during relative displacement of the earth and the tunnel, in order to limit the forces experienced by the tunnel itself. The layer pref. consists of a clay-like material e.g. a mixture of bentonite and water.
