A panel (10) forming part of a piece of furniture is attached to a frame by a concealed joint. A blind hole (9) is made in the panel and a capsule (11) with a flexible skin, containing a measured quantity of adhesive is inserted in the hole. A dowel, or pin, (1) made of wood, plastics, or cast iron has a number of longitudinal and circumferential grooves and a point (7) at each end. The dowel is inserted into the hole and pressed against the capsule so that the skin is pierced by the point and the adhesive flows into the dowel grooves.
