Method for forming a bellows-type capsule for use in applications in which the pressure on the outside of the capsule is substantially greater than that on the inside, which is formed with spacer rings located between the diaphragms (membranes) which form adjacent segments of the bellows in the internal diameter of the bellows. The total thickness of each pair of diaphragms and the intermediate ring is greater than the diameter of the weld bead in the external diameter or edge of each segment of the bellows. When the bellows is pushed to its totally compressed position, its diaphragms are capable of folding up in such a manner that the wall parts which have a greater pressure difference across them are supported by an adjacent diaphragm and a load-support column is created in the internal diameter of the bellows, with the result that the forces on the bellows are minimized when the bellows moves in cycle to its fully compressed position.
