摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To automatically extract a substantially belt-like object which is expressed in the background of a digital image by forming an image that is smoothed from a digital image with several scales and performing processing such as extracting boundary pixels of an object in the image. SOLUTION: An image that is smoothed from a digital image with several scales is formed, and boundary pixels of an object in a smoothing image are extracted. A candidate central pixel which has a radius that is linked to a scale, is related with the center position of a circle that comes in contact with a boundary with a pair of boundary pixels and is related with the degree of dependence that is virtually aligned is extracted. A central pixel is extracted by using a 1st selection of a candidate central pixel from different smoothed images which have the degree of the maximum dependency and a 2nd selection of remaining candidate central pixels which have the maximum intensity. In a digital image Jsk of the extracted central pixel, the skeleton of an object is constructed by tracing pixels.
