<p>An arrangement for one-sided or two-sided coating of a basically upwardly moving web, in particular a paper web. An excess amount of coating substance is supplied onto the web and the coating substance sticking thereto is evened by pulling the web through a coating nip formed by a flexible blade and a back-up member. There is a coating chamber being open against the web and including means for supplying coating substance to the chamber. At the bottom of the chamber, at a considerable distance from the coating nip, there is a narrow slot through which the web moves basically without any contact with the edges of the slot. The coating substance supply to the chamber and the width of the slot are so adapted to the speed of the web and to the coating substance viscosity, that only a small amount of coating substance flows downwards through the slot during normal operation of the arrangement.</p> |
