The reciprocating motor has a stator with a magnetic coil and an armature linked at one end and free at the other to move the pump's or compressor's moving part (12). A linkage (20) joins the free end of the armature (5) to the wall(9) (or other fixed part) so as to control the feed motion of that end. The links (25,26) of the linkage can be varied w.r.t. one another. The linkage may consist of a two-armed lever (21) which limits the closing movement of the armature. One arm is linked to the wall and the other to the free end of the armature. Stops (31) act on the lever.
