The signal compressor is controlled in response to frequency and amplitude level characteristics of the applied signal. A filter excludes the high and low frequency extreme regions from controlling the compressor and attenuates these regions in the compressed signal. The filter pref. comprises a band rejecting network having a steep drop-off, with a corner frequency located to attenuate the frequency extreme regions. the band rejecting network pref. has drop-offs of 12-18 dB/octave. The network may be located in the input signal path to the compressor. |
