A screw conveyor for explosive granular material has an interruption (19) on its screw vane or vanes (17, 18) at a distance from the entrance end (11) of said screw conveyor, such that the granular material is conveyed in the form of a column through the housing (10) within the screw conveyor portion (19) without screw vane or vanes. The column functions as a safety plug limiting the tendency of the conveyed granular material to be flung out through the entrance end of the conveyor in the event of an explosion within the screw conveyor. The interruption (19) of said screw vane or vanes (17, 18) has a length which is from 0.5 to 3 times the screw diameter and begins at a distance of from 1 to 4 times the screw diameter from the entrance end (11). |
