PURPOSE:To improve the luminous efficiency of a fluorescent lamp by installing a heat- shielding plate in the boundary between the cylindrical section and the projecting section of a case, fitting the curved sections of a fluorescent tube in the holes of the heat- shielding plate and exposing the curved sections within the projecting section. CONSTITUTION:A fluorescent lamp has a case 10 which consists of a light-transmitting globe 9 made of glass or the like and having both a cylindrical section 7 and a dome- like projecting section 8, and a metallic case 2 fixed to the end of the cylindrical section 7. A circular heat-shielding plate 11 also serving as a partition plate and made of metal or the like, is attached in the boundary between the cylindrical section 7 and the projecting section 8 by means of frit glass 12. The heat-shielding plate 11 has two holes 13 in which the curved sections 14 of a saddle-like fluorescent tube 4 are fitted. The fluorescent tube 4 is installed in the case 10 in such a manner as to expose the curved sections 14 within the projecting section 8. A glow starter is installed in the case 10. A stabilizer 5 is installed in the case 2. Owing to the above constitution, the coldest space is formed in the projecting section 8, thereby restricting the mercury vapor pressure of the fluorescent tube 4 and enabling the luminous efficiency of the fluorescent lamp to be improved.
