PURPOSE:To reduce the number of constitutional bits sharply and to increase the number of words enabled to be built in the same capacity of an ROM by storing the words as a specific code. CONSTITUTION:Dictionary memories 3a-3d are constituted by ROMs and words to be translated, Japanese and English words e.g., are correspondingly stored. When a word is to be stored, the dictionary memories 3a-3d compare the word with the preceding word successively and set up a ''0'' bit the same character. A ''1'' bit is set up to a different character and the succeeding characters are stored by their corresponding codes. The contents of the dictionary memories 3a-3d are read out by an external control circuit 21 and inputted to a CPU2 and data to be displayed are sent to a display control part 4.
