A divalent silver oxide cell of the type having a pos. electrode formed mainly of divalent silver oxide has its stability greatly improved by adding Cd and Te and, optionally, at least one auxiliary component contg. an element selected from a group consisting of Ti, Hg, Pb, Ge, Y, Sn, W, La, rare earth elements, Zn, Al and Se, each to either the divalent silver oxide, the alk. electrolyte or both. The Cd is contained in a concentration of not less than 0.03 wt.% when it is in the divalent silver oxide and not less than 0.01 g/l when in the alk. electrolyte. Ti is in a concentration of not less then 0.01 wt.% when in the divalent silver oxide and not less than 0.01 g/l when in the alk. electrolyte.
