PURPOSE:A fluorescent substance suitable as a conversion panel (sensitived paper) of radioactive image such as X-rays, etc., showing high coloring luminance, consisting of a fluorescent substance of a specific bivalent metal chlorohalide. CONSTITUTION:The desired fluorescent substance shown by the formula (M is Be, Mg, Ca, Sr, Zn, or Cd; X is Cl, Br, or I; 0<=x<=0.2; 10<-4=y<=2X10<-1>; 0<z<=2 X10<-1>). To obtain the titled fluorescent substance, the raw materials are mixed by a mill, packed into a crucible, and calcined preferably under weakly reducing atmosphere at 600-1,000 deg.C (preferably at 700-950 deg.C) usually for 1-6hr.
