PURPOSE:To make it possible to obtain high quality printed characters which are neatly arranged by such an arrangement wherein the feeding of the carriage of a serial printer is controlled according to the width of a character, and the feeding of a ribbon is also controlled by the feeding information of the carriage. CONSTITUTION:An ROM 1 receives print character codes from L1 and memorizes target position address codes of 7 bits and type width information of 3 bits corresponding to the width of a type, and as an ROM change-over command is given, type information is read out and sent to a 3-bit buffer 2 and an adder 3, and the preceding type width information memorized in the buffer 2 is added to the present type width information in the adder 3 and the sum is preserved by a counter 4 as information for controlling the feeding of carriage. Subtraction is performed every time as a carriage shifts by one step and it is stopped as 0 is reached. In addition, the feeding of a ribbon is simultaneously carried out. By this method, the arrangement of words composed of a series of printed characters which are different in character width becomes beautiful to the eye and high quality printed characters which are easy to read can be obtained. |
