PURPOSE:To select a desired image among plural stages of soft images and a sharp image by distributing opening parts at random in at least one of each couple of transparent electrodes on the top and reverse surfaces of plural liquid- crystal layers, and switching applied voltages. CONSTITUTION:When a contact C is selected with a changeover switch 14, neither the liquid-crystal layers 12 or 13 is applied with an electric field, so liquid- crystal molecules 16 are placed in a homeotropic array, and a light beam passing through the liquid-crystal layers 12 and 13 causes no birefringence, so that there is no variation of a wave surface. When a contact A is selected, a voltage is applied between the transparent electrodes 8 and 9 and the liquid-crystal layer 12 between the no-opening part 8b of the transparent electrode 8 and the transparent electrode 9 is placed in a homogeneous array, and a light beam passing through this part differs in optical path length from light beams passing through opening parts 8a. Similarly, when a contact B is selected, only the liquid-crystal layer 13 is driven and the light has different optical path length. Thus, a desired image is selected among plural stages of soft images and a sharp image. |
