摘要 PURPOSE:To reduce the amount of optical transmission loss by transmitting information with light having a 1.3mum wavelength band through an optical fiber which has a core formed by incorporating a specific amount of an OH group in high-purity quartz glass. CONSTITUTION:The optical fiber which has the core 1 formed by incorporating a <=1ppm OH group in the high-purity quartz glass is used to transmit information with light having the 1.3mum wavelength band. The content of the OH group in the core 1 is reduced preferably as much as possible as far as the light having the 1.3mum band is used, and there is no trouble in practical use when the content is <=1ppm. A clad layer 2 provided around the core 1 uses a polymer clad, quartz glass clad, etc. Consequently, the amount of optical transmission loss is reduced greatly, the influence of exposure is reduced as much as possible, and reliability is improved.
