PURPOSE:To prevent increase of transmission loss at low temps. by specifying friction coefft. between the outside surface of a crude fiber and the inner surface of a tubular coat. CONSTITUTION:An optical fiber composed essentially of quartz glass is coated with a resin compsn. and hardened to form a crude fiber. Its circumference is covered with a tubular thermosetting resin composition, with a space left a little. A friction coefft. between said outer surface of the crude fiber and the inner surface of the tubular cover is controlled to almost >=0.3. The contraction of the tubular cover is absorbed by contraction of the crude fiber itself caused by a force occurring on the contact face, and if a part remains not absorbed, meandering is somewhat promoted in such a degree that transmission loss increases very little. |
