PURPOSE:To perform gas separation with high efficiency by adjusting the quantity of recirculated gas in the second cell with a valve and adjusting the quantity of discharged gas from the high pressure side of the same cell, in a gas separation apparatus constituted of the first and second cell provided with gas separation membranes between the high pressure section and the low pressure section. CONSTITUTION:A low pressure section 22 of the second separation cell S2 and the low pressure section 12 of the first separation cell S1 are evacuated by driving a pressure reducing pump 8. The permeation velocity for O2 of the membranes 13 and 23 are larger than the permeation velocity for N2. The gas in the low pressure section 22 of the second separation cell S2 is sucked by the pump 8, and the gas passed through the pump 8 is recirculated in a specified proportion to the high pressure section 21 of the second separation cell S2 via a flow control valve 7. By the adjustment of the discharged gas i9 (adjusted by the flow control valve 10) and the adjustment of the recirculation gas i5 (adjusted by the flow control valve 7), the concn. of oxygen in the discharged gas i9 is equalized to the oxygen concn. of air. By this method, liberation of gas having elevated oxygen concn. is prevented.
