PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a range finder capable of obtaining a contrast of an object with a simple configuration even against light, and measuring a range quickly and accurately. SOLUTION: A range finder, comprising two sensor arrays 2a, 2b for detecting luminance distribution of an object as a picture signal, an AMP 3 for amplifying and integrating output signals of both sensor arrays 2a, 2b, a comparison means 6 for deciding whether the integration has become a predetermined state, a change-over means 5 for switching characteristics of the amplification or the integration to at least two steps, and a CPU 10 for calculating a distance to the object from the relative positions of the picture signals based on the outputs of both sensor arrays, is provided with the CPU 10 for obtaining an object picture signal by repeating amplifying and integral control actions based on the stored time after starting amplifying and integrating by setting the characteristic of amplification or the integration of AMP 3 to one of the steps, measuring and storing a time before the output of the comparison means 6, and then changing the setting of the characteristic of amplification or the integration of AMP 3 to the other step. |
