The head comprises a plastic housing 1 to which is fixed a metal sole 3 which makes around the rim 2 thereof, optionally with a protective belt 7, a slot 4 through which a brush 5 can pass, said sole comprising a shaped part 8 to 10 defining at least one suction channel 10 and extending in the form of outer skirts 6 reaching through the slot. According to the invention, the skirts 6 of the sole 3 are provided with end pieces 11 of a flexible material extending close to the external lateral surface of the housing, whether or not its rim is equipped with a protective belt 7, which end pieces 11 define portions of channel 12 that continue the suction channel 10 of the sole as far as the exterior. <IMAGE>
