Device for driving a trolley, essentially characterised in that it includes, in combination, a single sided rectilinear planar rack 7 placed on the ground and constituting the drive path, at least one, but advantageously two toothed rollers or gears 12, 13 acting as driver elements and elements for moving the supported rack, located vertically above the single-sided rack 7, a double-sided flexible toothed belt 14 interposed under pressure and meshing respectively with the single-side rack 7 on the one hand, and the teeth of the two toothed pinions 12, 13 on the other hand, driving means moreover being provided to drive the flexible double-sided toothed belt acting as a transmission member so as to drive the said pinions in rotation by one of its faces (the internal face), whilst remaining in contact with the said rack by the other of its faces (the external faces) over a constant length, the length being a function of the dimension and spread of the said pinions, the double-sided belt moving in permanent contact with the rack during the translational movement.
