PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inexpensive optical element excellent in optical capacity in an optical element molding method. SOLUTION: In a mold consisting of an upper mold 4, a lower mold 5 and a body mold 6, a material for an optical element characterized by that the relation between the vol. C of the molding space surrounded by the molding surface of the upper mold 4, the molding surface of the lower mold 5 and the body mold 6 and the vol. V of a material for an optical material charged in the molding space to obtain the optical element under heating and pressure becomes 0.98<=V/C<=1.03 is used. By this constitution, optical capacity becomes well and molding processability is stabilized.
