PURPOSE:To prevent voltage drop caused by polarization and provide high performance acidic electrolyte fuel cell by containing fine particle platinum in an electrolyte matrix. CONSTITUTION:Fine particle platinum having a particle size of 20-100Angstrom is prepared. This platinum and matrix material such as silicon carbide fine powder are mixed. Concentrated phosphoric acid is added to this mixture and they are kneaded. The kneaded matrix is spreaded in layer state on an electrode plate coated with platinum catalyst carried on acetylene black or graphite, and other electrode plate is stacked on the matrix. This stacked body is pressed under constant pressure from the upper and lower directions. A large number of unit cells are connected in series to form a fuel cell. |
