Tensioner for a metal wire, the installation of which may be carried out at any point on the said wire. Stop pieces 29 are located at the base 26 of each winding rod 10; the said stop pieces, when the two parts 21 are fitted together, leave between them a passage corresponding to the cross section of the wire F and automatically adjust a space between the teeth 14 so as to allow the passage of the wire F. Tabs 32 acting as a self-locking immobilising ridge 34 are located perpendicularly to the longitudinal axis of the rod 10 and over the entire length of the rods 10, which act as a winding drum.
