PURPOSE:To prevent deterioration in picture quality by changing over two reading mechanisms of a reading section stationary type and an original stationary type through the use of a reflecting mirror fixed at a prescribed position in a reading device. CONSTITUTION:A light source 27, a reading section 24 and a carrying mechanism 29 so as to read an original placed on an original reading table 26 are provided in a case 20. The reflecting mirror 25 is provided right under of an end part 26a of the original reading table. The original placed on the original placing table 21 is fed sequentially by an original feeding mechanism 28. When the reading section 24 is positioned right under the reflecting mirror 25, the content of the original reflected on the reflecting mirror 25 is read through a slit of a guide plate 23.
