PURPOSE:To release an internal pressure if abnormal phenomenon occurs, quickly release liquid battery forming materials to the outside of battery, suspend abnormal reaction and thereby prevent generation of dangerous phenomenon such as combustion and improve safety operation by coaxially providing the hermetically sealed part around the positive or negative electrode. CONSTITUTION:The hermetically sealed part 11 is coaxially provided around the positive or negative terminal 4 and it is also used as the safety valve. For example, the safety valve 11 is formed by the following process that a ring-shaped ceramic consisting of the pure alpha-alumina having a resistance to the thionyl chloride is metallized and thereafter it is heated under the inactive ambient and is integrated using a metal brazing material such a pure copper. The negative terminal plate 4 and positive terminal plate 1 are insulated by such safety valve 11 and simultaneously the battery is hermetically sealed. In such a battery providing such safety valve 11, the thionyl cyloride is quickly released from the valve during operation of such valve due to increase of internal pressure resulting from abnormal phenomenon to the outside of battery. Accordingly reaction stops and a current flow stops. |
