For the cyclic advance of a subaqueous tunnel tube formed from a plurality of tunnel sections, cylinder/piston units (14) are arranged below the tunnel tube, which is displaceable on slideways (9) on the base (7) of a driving trench, and are attached in an articulated manner to the trench base (7). With an axis inclined in the driving direction, the cylinder/piston units (14) act in each case via a pressure shoe (19) against saw-toothed supporting surfaces (24) on the underside of the component. During the advance, the vertical component of the pressure force thus counteracts the dead weight of the tunnel tube and reduces its friction relative to the slideway, while the horizontal component effects the advance. <IMAGE>
