PURPOSE:To transfer a protruded character of a card clearly with a high surface pressure by forming the pressing surface of a press roller depicting a circular arc projected downward. CONSTITUTION:R of the pressing surface of a press roller 1 and (r) of a rolling support surface 12 thereof are set to accommodate the height H of a hold plate 2. A card 6 is housed into a concave surface 31 of a panel 3. A slip for transferring is placed on the top surfaces of the card 6 and the panel 3 and the hold plate 2 thereon. As the press roller 1 rolls on the guide surface 21 of the hold plate 2 along the arc surface R thereof, the pressing surface gets in linear contact with the surface of a protruded character at the intersection between the imaginary center line drawn vertically from the center point C of R of the arc surface and the pressing surface 11 and acts with a surface pressure several ten times larger than that of the flat plate. In addition, the rolling circumferential velocity of the pressing surface 11 is slightly larger than the circumferential velocity of the support surface 12 to impart a slight slide friction to the surface of a slip paper. When the slip is a non-carbon paper, the pressing action will be further promoted.
