A gear pump according to the invention has a pump housing (1) made of metal, in which at least two pump wheels (3, 4) are arranged. The pump wheel (3) is the driving wheel and consists of a hard material, in particular metal, while the pump wheel (4) is the driven wheel and consists of plastic. To avoid wear between the end sides of the driving pump wheel (3) and the adjacent walls of the pump housing (1), two gear discs (7, 8) are arranged on both sides of the driving pump wheel (3), which prevent contact of the end sides of the driving pump wheel (3) with the pump housing (1) and consist of a wear-resistant plastic. <IMAGE>
