A switching device for a temperature switch or pressure switch has, in a housing (1), a snap-action switch (6) which has a contact rivet (14) which is always held against one of two fixed contacts (11, 12) by means of a contact spring (15). The snap-action switch (6) is operated by means of an operating lever (21) which is displaced by a plunger (5). A compression spring (29) is used to reset the plunger (5). This compression spring (29) is supported on the operating lever (21), above the plunger (5), and on an end insulating material panel (7) of the housing (1) of the switching device. In order to make possible this arrangement of the compression spring, a slot-shaped passage (28) is provided in a tongue (16) of the contact spring (15), and the compression spring (29) is guided through said passage (28). <IMAGE>
