Method and device for exciting seismic transverse waves

A receiver (3) of a seismic energy generator (1) is inserted into the ground under the effect of the tensile force of an arbitrary, suitable transport means. The insertion is achieved by decomposing the tensile force so that the force effecting the immersion of the receiver is a vector which is directed at an angle of at least 90 DEG relative to the direction of movement of the transport means. The mechanical pulses of a generator (4) are transmitted to the receiver (3) after it has been inserted during the movement of the transport means or after it has been stopped. The pulses are transmitted perpendicular to the direction of movement in a plane extending parallel to the surface of the ground. In a device for exciting seismic transverse waves, the receiver (3) has symmetrically convergent plane side faces (12), a plane lower face (10) and a concave end face (9) which converges at an acute angle with the lower plane face (10) in such a way that the two faces form a blade (11) for penetrating the ground under the effect of the tensile force of the transport means. <IMAGE>
