The plastic nail is provided for driving or pressing into a pre-drilled bore. The diameter of the bore is slightly smaller than the largest external diameter of the nail shank which is provided with a plurality of longitudinally running, rib-type elevations and/or groove-type depressions, has a nail head at one end and is conically tapered at the other end. In order to minimise the material abrasion when driving the nail into the bore of smaller diameter and to achieve, by cross-sectional deformation, the maximum degree of clamping between nail shank and bore wall, and thus fixed anchoring of the plastic nail in a bore of any type, the nail shank is provided with a cross-sectional profile (2) which, starting from a circle cross-section whose diameter (D2) is approximately 1.13 to 1.2 times larger than the associated bore diameter (D1), has at least three fishtail-type profile sectors (17) with profile lips (17'). The latter are formed by U-shaped radial grooves (20) and circumferential cutouts (25) which are located therebetween and are in the form of an arc of a circle or at least approximately triangular. High anchoring strength can thus be achieved without difficulty, even in the case of relatively large differences from the bore diameter. <IMAGE>
