The locking arrangement is provided for two part of a vibration damper, which engage each other coaxially and has a piston rod axially guided in a container so as to be externally sealed. The end of the piston rod in the container carries a damping piston. The external end is connected to a supporting tube coaxially enclosing the container tube. The locking device is arranged between the tubes and has at least one variable diameter clamp element (4) that can be arbitrarily actuated by an actuator (5), which imparts an axial movement to the clamp element opposing the inward piston rod movement. A restoring element (6) engages the clamp element. A distance variable spring device (7) that interacts with the lockable vibration damper is mounted between the vehicle chassis and wheel suspension.
