A computer selected "quick pick" wagering system (100) uses the keys in the form of random numbers to serve as seed numbers in a pseudo-random number generating algorithm (114). A sales agent's terminal uses the algorithm and seed to produce random number combinations (108) for each play for a pool, assigning the number combinations (116) sequentially and printing them (118), together with a sequential serial number (116), onto lottery tickets. By storing the algorithm and seed at both the host computer and the remote agent terminal (106), the remote the remote can transmit all pertinent wagering information by only transmitting the actual count of plays sold, thereby reducing the amount of data exchanged by several orders of magnitude. The reduced data exchange makes novel methods of data transfer, such as satellite packet transmission and cellular service practical.
|
