PURPOSE:To eliminate the effect of illumination variance and output variance of an image pickup element, and to obtain the accurate picture information, by reading successively the video signals equivalent to two scan lines to discriminate plural pictures contained in an object to be measured, and measuring the complexity of each picture with a small quantity of picture data. CONSTITUTION:An object 1 to be measured is shifted by an automatic feed mechanism 8 while the focal position of the object 1 is controlled. Then the pictures are read by a line scan type solid-state image pickup element 3 through an optical system 2. This read picture signal is applied with A/D conversion through an output spot correcting part 4 and is corrected by the reference data measured previously. A measurement circuit 5 measures the parameters such as the size, form, color, etc. of the picture groups contained in the corrected video signal. Then the result of this measurement is displayed at a display part 6. Each of these parts is controlled with the timing output a control part 9. While the system 2 is controlled by an automatic focusing mechanism 7, and the complexity of each picture is measured with a small quantity of data. Thus the effects of the illumination variance and the output level variance of the element 3 are eliminated to output the accurate picture information. |
