PURPOSE:To improve an electromagnetic conversion characteristic, especially a high-output property, an S/N characteristic, and a physical characteristic by composing a binder in magnetic paint of polyurethane, vinyl chloride-vinylidene chloride, and cellulose nitrate resins in a specified ratio. CONSTITUTION:The binder is characteristically composed of 30-64wt% polyurethane resin, 10-45wt% vinyl chloride-vinylidene chloride resin, and 15- 40wt% cellulose nitrate resin. The polyurethane resin is usually the reaction product of diisocyanates and a compd. such as glycol having hydroxy groups, and the compd. having terminal OH groups is especially preferable ''Denka Vinyl 1,000W and 1,000WK'' manufactured by the Denki Kagaku Kogyo Company can be used as the vinyl chloride-vinylidene chloride resin. The cellulose nitrate is the nitrate ester of cellulose and is also called nitrocellulose. When any of the three components is beyond said specified range, one of the characteristics indispensable to the magnetic recording medium is damaged.
