PURPOSE:To reduce the quantity of data to be stored in a memory and to decrease both memory capacity and arithmetic time by using a binary coding circuit which delivers plural binary signals out of the sensor output and fetching the sensor output data via said binary coding circuit. CONSTITUTION:A sensor 2 of an external appearance inspector scans plural capsules and delivers plural signals (a). These signals (a) are applied to a comparator 221 as well as to differentiators 211 and 212. A comparator 221 compares the signal (a) with a prescribed level and applies the signal (b) to a bus changeover switch 24. At the same time, the signals (f) and (g) of the prescribed width which are processed by the differentiator 211, comparators 222 and 223 and monostable multivibrators 231 and 232 are applied to the switch 24. Furthermore the signal (m) of the prescribed width which is processed by the differentiator 212, comparators 224 and 225, a monostable multivibrator 234, an AND gate 28, a monostable multivibrator 233, etc. is applied to the switch 24. The data output of the switch 24 is binary coded and delivered to data buses 271 and 272. Thus the quantity of data to be written to memories 251 and 252 is reduced.
