A packaging container has a longitudinal seam which is connected to a sealing strip (20) and which is sealed off. The sealing strip (20), which is formed from a flat, flexible and heat-sealable band, has essentially an I-shaped cross-section, of which the crossbars of the parts (21, 22, 23) forming the I-profile are sealed together with inner and outer edge regions (13 to 16) of the longitudinal seam and of which the intermediate parts (24, 25) forming the connecting web are sealed together with the faces of the longitudinal edges (11, 12).
