Serving mutually to secure containers stacked on the decks of ships are support fittings which absorb the forces acting on the container during transport by being supported against one another. Separate unloading of an individual row of containers lying one above the other, which hitherto could not be carried out on account of the anchoring means connected to one another via a common base plate and engaging in the respective corner fitting, is possible with the fitting according to the invention. This fitting is designed in such a way that, apart from the anchoring means (17, 18) at the base plate (10) carrying them, a support head (15) for the mutual, joint-free, horizontal support of containers lying next to one another is formed essentially parallel to the anchoring means (17, 18) at one edge (24) of the base plate (10). <IMAGE>
