The lining (1) for a traffic tunnel or the like to be produced by shield-type driving consists of rings of steel tubbings which, to permit subsequent deformations in areas of mining subsidence, have a cross-section which deviates from the straight lines in the longitudinal direction of the lining, e.g. an undulating cross-section. The tubbings form a water-tight tube by means of interposed sealing elements in the construction state and by welding in the final state. On the tubbing back, a cylindrical circumferential surface for the water-tight overlapping by the shield tail is formed on components which are constructed in such a way that in the construction state they transmit the shearing forces from the driving to the rock and serve as a supporting structure for the sealing elements without hindering the deformations of the tunnel lining in the final state. These components each consist of a curved slab (8), e.g. of concrete, which rests on the back of one or more tubbings (4) on the crests of the undulations and is frictionally connected (9) to the tubbing in an annular direction along a line for the forces acting in the longitudinal direction and has recesses (11) encircling at its end faces for forming chambers for accommodating sealing elements (12). <IMAGE>
